A Short Lived Hard Won Freedom

A prisoner escaped from Pentonville prison in London yesterday. A classic escape too apparently. Featuring the traditional knotted bedsheets.

Pentonville prison.
In my misspent youth I had the misfortune to spend a few months incarcerated in that very place. It is not an easy place to escape from. Believe me I checked out possible escape routes during my time there. It would have been well nigh impossible, and I was a very fit, if somewhat callow youth.

The guy who escaped yesterday is 64 years old. He did well to get out of that place. Had to scale a thirty foot high, barbed wire topped wall. In broad daylight!

I think congratulations are in order here. 64 years old! Well done!

But he had to go and spoil things by getting captured after less than 24 hours. For heaven's sake mate. If you are going to go to all that trouble to escape, make an effort to stay free. I feel badly let down now. But hey! 64 years old. Not bad at all.

Having said that however, the bloke is a callous cold blooded murderer. So let's be thankful he is back inside where he belongs.

I'm 64 years old too.

I reckon I would be able to get out of there easily nowadays. Now that I am older, cleverer, and wiser.

Maybe wise enough now, not to get myself in there in the first place! I'd like to think so.

I hope you all have a good weekend. Try and stay out of trouble. Some of you wouldn't manage to climb over that prison wall!

  1. What? No video of you singing "When I'm Sixty-Four"? Please remedy this immediately! Thank you.

  2. Even if I got a bunk up I'd still fall and break my neck.

  3. I never could climb a rope. A tree was easy but not something that gave me nothing to stand on. And I would have a tough time with a tree now that I am 64.

  4. Well, he must have been really talented! I love your train header pic.

  5. Sometimes you just have to give kudos to an older person, even if what they do is not all the smart.

  6. You nailed it. He spent so much time preparing to escape that he did not have much of a plan when he was out, but it is for the best since he was not a nice fellow. I will do my best to stay out of trouble and you do the same. And I am going to try your logic when it comes to rooting for my soccer team. I watch a little of the EPL but I follow the MLS here in the States. My team is Real Salt Lake but they have been stinking it up lately so I am going be negative about them and hope it spurs them on.

  7. Don't sell seniors short...we can be very clever. But some are more clever than others. 24 hours? Not much time to savor freedom. Glad he's back behind bars, tho. Tell me, how did he manage to hide all those sheets? Inside help?

  8. I read that he climbed up rolled-up netting ... guess it all depends on which papers we read. I'm glad he was caught, murderers should be shot instead of kept in prison. He'll no doubt get some more time added on.
