Just Saying

This past couple of days I have been working, doing some decorating. The house I'm working in is centrally heated, and I am not used to that.

Last night I had difficulty sleeping because I couldn't stop coughing. Probably, I suspect, caused by a combination of the dust I caused by sandpapering, the smell of paint, and the heat.

This morning the cough had gone, but it has come back tonight along with a sore throat to keep it company. This has made me feel very grumpy and miserable.

It is nice to be working in the warm but surely it can't be healthy to live in such a constant warm temperature?  I think my body is used to the cold and maybe is objecting to working in the heat?

Why am I telling you this? Well there is no one here to tell, and I need a bit of sympathy that's all.

Tomorrow is Thursday. Sam and I are going to walk the dogs together. I shall wait to see if this sore throat is a transient thing caused by the heat, paint and dust. Hopefully like this morning it will have gone. If not I may have to cancel our walk, wouldn't want to pass it to Sam. If I do have to cancel I shall feel even more grumpy than I do now. That is for certain.

I am going to get some sleep now. Hopefully I will wake up happy.

  1. Sounds as if you could use a humidifier, even a kettle steaming on the stove would work.

  2. Another thing to try is wearing one of those face masks contractors use. The moisture in the air suggested by Banker Chick is excellent. Now then.... Oh, John, you poor, poor thing. How ever do you manage with such a terrible affliction? Why is there never anyone to soothe you when you need it most? Did that help?

  3. Face filter is a good idea, especially this awkward season when new grasses are striving with the old. Stay warm, and yes, wake up happy.

  4. Try gargling your throat with some strong mouthwash or warm salt water, that will dislodge any germs lurking there waiting to invade.
Also try placing some Vicks vapour rub or vaseline in your nose before wearing the mask for painting....works for me.
    Hope you feel better.

  5. I endorse Banker Chick's comment... steam does seem to help. Be wary of Vaseline up nose though, they put warnings on jars now to stop people doing that, something to do with damaging the lining. Hope you feel better today and can enjoy your walk with Sam.

  7. I think you'll find that its a bug, I have it for the second time and lots of people I know have it also.
Not a real cold but sore throat, feeling dusty down there and a stupid unproductive cough.
I hope yours is caused by the heat and dust of your work but it sounds like mine.
In the meantime I want you to know that I feel really sorry for you and am sending lots of love over the airwaves to make you feel better.
There I know you feel better already with that bit of sympathy. LOL

  8. Central heating will irritate the throat every time when you're not accustomed to it. On top of it all you may be getting 'the bug'. Take care John. Hugs Sue

  9. Am I being a bit Dopey here, but in the last paragraph you mentioned Grumpy, Happy and feeling Sleepy. If you have started being Sneezy you must stop being Bashful and go and see the Doc.

Hope you are feeling better now and that you had a good walk. The weather here (up norf) has been beautiful, hope it is with you(darn sarf).

  11. I assume you have deteriorated in your health as I see you haven't posted for a few days. Or is it you have found better things to do. Hope you are feeling better and will rejoin the blogging world some time soon.
