My grandfather had a steel for his guitar. It was of course made from solid steel and fit between his fingers to slide along the strings. Bu the time I came along he had arthritis so bad he could no longer play. He also played the mandolin, banjo, and fiddle. My grandmother played piano. They often played for barn dances.
