Published. Elbows Off The Table.

'Elbows Off The Table'
By John Kennedy Bain

I have done it! I am an author! My book is published on Amazon Kindle and is available in the Kindle store, wherever that is. Unfortunately I seem to have made the title page a bit skewed, but everything else seems to be fine.

I haven't got a Kindle so I can't read it myself, but that's OK 'cos I know what's in it. But perhaps there are other ways and places to read it?

On a serious note I must warn you that this book about my childhood contains descriptions of child abuse that some will find upsetting. And the language! Oh dear! This little book is not for the faint hearted.

However I have I think also managed to inject some humour into it. This might sound strange but it is now more than fifty years after the events depicted, and I think it is my sense of humour that has mostly helped me through. I realised whilst writing that I have used humour as a healing balm for most of my life.

I have made a small change to the author's name (that's me) since I published this. I have added the name Kennedy in memory of my Mother. Despite everything, I did love her. None of us is perfect.

  1. I am thrilled that your book is finally available. Biographies are my favorite read and to be able to read about someone as interesting as you will be a real treat. I am off to shop at Amazon now. I will give you my review when I finish the book. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

    1. I just finished reading your book. If anyone would like to know how children really feel about being treated as nothing, this is the book to read. It hurt me to see how that little boy was led away not knowing why or what was in store for him. The things that boy had to endure as he tried to survive in the system are heart-breaking. It was gratifying to see him develop into a stronger person. What I see at the end is someone who is learning that he has strength but has not as yet learned how to utilize it. It is a remarkable book. You are so brave to share it with the world. Perhaps it will make someone look more carefully at another little boy who is lost in the care system. You are fortunate that you have grown into a man who can give and accept love. It must have been hard for you to do at times.

    2. I also left a review at the amazon site. You probably will not recognize the name because it is my real name but I wanted to make sure that people will know it is a good read.

  8. Congratulations John, glad you have got it sorted. I am in two minds whether I want to read it or not. I have read similar stories but they have been about people I do not know. Traumatic as they were, I could distance myself from it. As I have met you I think I might find your story too distressing to read. I'll think about it for a while.
