Yellow Snow And Gloop.

Another lovely Spring day in my little homestead. The temperature got up to about 11 centigrade. If it had done it in fahrenheit I might have had a better idea of how warm it got. But it felt very pleasant in the sunshine. Here in the paddock we are protected from the wind by the hedgerows but once outside their protection the wind can still bite a bit. There is a yellow snow warning in force at the moment. The only time I have seen yellow snow before is when... oh better not go there. We have had several yellow snow warnings so far this year. As far as I can tell it means it isn't going to snow at all!

This afternoon I have been up to my neck in muck and bullets. Well, that's what it felt like. What happened was, Tricia asked me if I would investigate why the floor was flooding when she used the washing machine. The problem it turned out was the pipe that drained the water away was blocked solid. Years of accumulated goodness knows what were stuck in it. Gloop is a good word to describe it. I had to take floorboards up and dismantle pipes to sort it all out. I got it done but it took all afternoon. It didn't half stink too! For some reason Tricia and EHS George found my complaining about it hilariously amusing. I like the sense of acheivement - oh blimey i before e except after c and all that baloney - achievement when I can repair something and it doesn't cost money.

Nearly six in the evening and it is still light. I haven't lit the fire yet either. Soon be summer. Here is a picture of Mia the German Shepherd with the first blossom to appear every year in the paddock.

Mia the German Shepherd.

Thanks for dropping by.

  2. As a fellow solo camper plus a dog, can I pick your brain, please? I have a Berlingo and a tent, but all the seats are still in the car, because I have been warned that if I remove the rear seats (to make room for a mattress on short trips) my insurance would not be valid. Have you had any such problems as you do manage to fit in a mattress/bed in your car? I'd love to have a driveaway awning, too - but the Berlingo doesn't have the necessary channel to slide it through. :( Cannot wait to drag the tent and gear out . . .

    1. Hi Rambler. My small van is a proper van and doesn't have seats in the back. Everything in my van is easily removed too. Have you spoken to your insurance company about the seats. If the seats are designed to be easily removed? I can't see how removing them would affect your insurance. Are you on Facebook? There are quite a few sites you can join where people can advise you. I belong to a really good group on FB called Small Vehicle Campers they are very helpful. Lots of Berlingos with the seats removed too. I am pleased you love the painting of Mia. Thankyou.

    2. Thank you, John. I am on Facebook - just been looking for Small Vehicle Campers but can't find anything by that name. It sounds to be a nice, informative group, too.
I am told that the Berlingo rear seats can't be easily removed - bolts need to be sawn through! Drastic! Hence the insurance problem.

    3. Hi Rambler. I just realised it is a secret group and you have to be added by a member to join. It is a very friendly group. Feel free to Friend me on fb and I will add you if you wish. However I think you will find most camper sites very useful.

    7. Try again, Rambler. I think I have found you on Facebook - but if you are the John Bain in Bridgend, there's no 'Friend Request' button.

    9. I am not in Bridgend. Try looking for a photo of a good looking old man with a German Shepherd and a Labrador. :) I will try and find a way to give a connection.

  4. You mucking out the gloop made me think of the "good old days" when we used wringer washers. Because we were such a big family there would be a lot of gloop forming material. It would clog the drain hose that would have to be unclogged. Because I did the laundry I had to do the unclogging too. Yuck.

    1. Tricia washes things such as trainers and mats in the washing machine Emma. It was bound to cause trouble sooner or later.

  5. Well, it is snowing here... not heavy YET. It is also extremely cold which makes me think I should move south! As for washing machines.... I'd rather not talk about them!!!!
